Flange rigidity factor
WebDec 15, 2024 · With regards to calculating rotation of flange, the rigidity factor formula in ASME VIII Table 2-14 can be modified to do just this. By simply removing the K factor the result will be rotation in degrees. So in essence, ASME VIII rigidity limits rotation on integral flanges to 0.3 degrees and rotation on loose-type flanges to 0.2 degrees. WebSingla noted several strategies and design adaptations that may be beneficial in these cases: Increasing the thickness of the flange and tubesheet. Reduce the allowable flange rigidity index. Reduce the allowable stresses for flanges and tubesheets. Make the required bolt ratio 120 percent of design and perform full bolt-load calculations.

WebNov 24, 2003 · One of the reasons (and there are several) that it is conservative is that the gross bending moment on a flange is not actually equivalent to an axial load. The torsional rigidity of the flange acts to distribute the bending load around the flange. WebCheck alignment of mating flanges. Avoid use of force to achieve alignment. Verify that 1. the two flange faces are parallel to each other within 132in. at the extremity of the raised face, 2. flange centerlines coincide within ⅛ in. Joints not meeting these criteria should be rejected. Read more View chapterPurchase book Read full chapter
