WebJun 11, 2024 · During the study period, a total of 6,178 pleural effusions were processed at the Johns Hopkins cytopathology laboratory. A total of 90 patients were identified with a diagnosis of SFM (48 [53%] male, 42 [47%] female). The patients’ mean age was 60.6 years (range, 22-87 years). Seventy-seven (87%) patients had a history of malignancy.
