I do have the reflex to say ''How can a player be a samurai without the whole system of feudal Japan''. But MM makes a good point and I should instead try to find ''what's a samurai in my game/setting'' (considering that I want to have them, for starter). Mistwell Webto what you already know in D&D. Armoured melee fighter. 2-handed sword (optional, 2-sword user). Bushido gets awkward, you can go Knight (3.5 class) or Paladin. WebSamurai were historically dedicated to war, honor and service to their lords. Roleplay wise she should follow a strict code of honor that dictates basically her entire life. She shouldnt believe in stealth instead prefering to face her enemies with honor and never hide in the shadows like a filthy ninja. WebRage-->focus is great, all of the primal paths (lvl 3 archetypes) are great thematically, strength based attack = big damage and big weapons, beefy, unarmored or medium armor for all samurai needs, Barbarian abilities synergize with samurai concept, reckless attack (think Jin). WebFighter is the best archer in the game. Ranger doesn't even come close (at high levels). Battlemaster Archer with hand crossbow and the crossbow expert feat is the closest 5e comes to a full on OP build, as it milks a design oversight (bonus action sharpshooter hurts, a lot). Put a couple points into Dex, and rest in Strength, go fighter (even a Samuari subclass in Xanathar's) and you're all set.
